A LITTLE GUIDANCE GOES A LONG WAY

Find your way.

Answers from the MakeThatForMe support guide. Ask Nora for general help, or send your question to a person.

What MakeThatForMe does

MakeThatForMe helps people discover custom-made work and find someone with the skills to make an idea. Explore pictures and reels, save ideas, visit a studio, and send a picture or message. Agree the details and quote with the maker before work begins. Clothes, furniture, art, ceramics and other custom work can all fit here.

Explore and search

Use the search bar for a product, craft, material or style, or choose a category. Filters narrow the work type and photos/reels. More pictures opens the full Explore feed. Search currently matches words; uploading a picture starts a request rather than an automatic visual-search upload.

Request something from a maker

Open a piece and choose I want something like this, or choose Ask me to make something on a studio profile. Send a picture, a message, or both. Mention any size, colour, quantity or timing you already know. You do not need all the answers. Work out the details in chat. Sending a request does not make a payment or guarantee that the maker accepts the job.

Quote and acceptance

Your maker shares a quote with item, material or service rows, a separate delivery row, the included work and delivery/handover date. One item price plus delivery is enough; additional rows are optional. Review the details and project steps before accepting. You must sign in to accept the current version. If the maker changes the plan or quote first, review the latest version. Accepted quotes and project plans lock; later scope or price changes need a documented agreement and team support. Nora cannot approve a quote for you.

Payments, held funds and M-Pesa

After accepting the quote, use the project's payment options. For new launch orders the buyer pays the full agreed amount. The payment is held while the maker works, then the buyer accepts delivery before a release is queued. The launch fee is 9% of non-delivery rows, including processing; delivery is passed through in full. The studio rate is protected for 24 months from its first accepted quote. Existing accepted deposit orders retain their terms. We aim to initiate eligible releases within one hour of accepted delivery, subject to provider settlement, available funds and verification. Live availability depends on a payment arrangement that supports holding funds. The buyer confirms the phone number and authorizes an M-Pesa prompt, or uses Paystack checkout. The server uses the accepted quote amount. A maker cannot send a payment prompt just because they know your phone number. Never enter or share an M-Pesa PIN on MakeThatForMe. Payments may be disabled in a preview until the provider is connected and tested. Nora cannot take a payment or inspect your payment records.

Pending or failed payments

Do not pay twice. Open the existing payment page and choose Check payment status. MakeThatForMe confirms the provider's result before marking an order paid. If the status is unclear, money was debited without confirmation, or you think there is a duplicate, send the issue to support. Nora cannot verify a transaction, refund money or ask for your PIN.

Custom project steps

The maker can adapt project checks before you accept the quote. They can cover wood samples, a sketch, a fitting, a finish, or another useful check. A finished-item review and delivery/handover step remain part of the plan. Review evidence and approve only when it matches what you agreed; discuss any changes in chat first. Nora cannot inspect an item or approve a stage for you.

Delivery and handover

Agree the delivery area, cost and handover date with your maker before accepting the quote. The first marketplace experience is Kenya-focused and prices are in KES. Delivery options, timelines and international fulfilment are not a platform-wide promise. Questions about a specific item's arrival or access to your address need the maker or human support.

Problems, disputes, refunds and cancellations

Use Report an issue in an unfinished project to describe the concern. This pauses progress and further releases for review. Keep the relevant photos and agreed details in the project conversation. Refunds, cancellations, damaged goods, delivery problems and disputes need human review; Nora cannot decide the outcome or promise a refund. Use Send to support to ask the team to contact you by email.

Open or complete a studio

Create a personal account, then open a studio. The short setup covers a brand picture, why/how/what introduction, skills, location, making time, palette and optional contact links. Skip details you want to add later and return through the completion bar. Your studio brand picture is separate from the owner's personal picture. A helper in somebody else's studio can still open their own studio.

Photos, reels and categories

From your studio workspace, share a piece with a cover, up to six additional photos and an optional short reel. The gallery supports seven pictures in total with a full-screen swipe/scroll viewer. The default shape is 9:16; 4:5 remains available. Reels are up to 60 seconds and 200 MB input, converted to compressed WebM. Images become WebP. Label inspiration honestly and publish only media you own or have permission to use. Create studio categories to organise work and highlight selected pieces. File-format/processing errors should show next to the upload field.

Fees and maker earnings

The launch fee is 9% of all non-delivery quote rows: items, materials and services. Payment processing is included. Delivery is passed through in full with no platform fee. For an item at KES 1,000 and delivery at KES 300, the buyer pays KES 1,300, the fee is KES 90 and the maker receives KES 1,210 including delivery. There are no setup, hosting or monthly studio fees. Your studio rate locks for 24 months from the first accepted quote. Accepted projects retain their agreed rate. Use the calculator for selling prices or desired proceeds.

Studio analytics and custom domains

The studio owner can open Analytics & domain from the studio workspace, paste a GA4 measurement ID, optional GTM container ID and Meta pixel ID, and enable tracking. Tags run only after visitor consent and are scoped to that studio. Prepared events include views, requests, accepted quotes, checkout and confirmed payment; no private conversation or contact data is included. Do not duplicate GA4 tags in GTM if using the direct GA4 connection. A custom domain needs a saved hostname, the displayed DNS ownership record, deployment routing and HTTPS activation by support. Saving a hostname alone does not activate it.

Publish stories for your studio

Open Studio blog from your studio workspace and choose Write a story. Use text, headings, pictures and the other blocks in the builder. Add an excerpt, image descriptions and useful SEO details. Save as draft or publish now; a future publication date schedules the story. The studio owner and helpers with portfolio permission can edit this studio's stories. Another studio cannot edit them. Published stories appear in your studio blog, separate from the MakeThatForMe Journal, and can be indexed by search engines.

Human support and response target

Nora is MakeThatForMe's AI guide for general website questions, grounded in this editable manual. She cannot access orders, inspect products, guarantee a maker's work, approve payments or make account changes. Open Human assistance, review the editable inquiry and confirm sending it, or use the contact page for product-specific, sensitive, disputed or unanswered concerns. Provide an email and the question; the team aims to reply within two hours. This is a human response target, not an automated resolution. Do not send passwords, PINs, card details or login codes.

Save pictures and mood boards

Press Save on a piece. Guest saves stay on this browser for 24 hours. Sign in to keep them in your account and organise them into boards. Boards start private. Open a board and choose Public to show those favourites on your profile, or choose Private to keep them to yourself. Saved ideas are references, not orders or reservations. If you clear browser storage before signing in, guest saves may be lost.

Start without an account

You can send a request and chat before signing in. Guest conversations and saves expire within 24 hours. Sent messages temporarily reach the maker's private workspace so they can reply; unsent text drafts and save IDs stay in your browser. Sign in before the expiry to keep your conversations and history. You must sign in before accepting a quote or paying. The guest workspace bar takes you back to your own chats and requests.

Create an account or sign in

Choose Log in, then Create an account if you are new. Manual signup uses your email and password; the site creates a username for you. Continue with Google appears when Google sign-in is connected. You can sign in before accepting your quote to keep an existing guest conversation. Do not send a password or login code to Nora or a maker.

Password recovery

Use Forgot your password on the sign-in page and follow the email instructions. Nora cannot reset a password, see your password, handle a verification code or confirm whether another person's email has an account. If a recovery email does not arrive, check spam and then contact support.

Email addresses and verification

Open Email & verification from the account menu. Select an address and choose Send verification email. Use its link to confirm it. You can add another address and choose your primary one. Check spam if the message is delayed. A studio invitation can only be accepted using its verified invited email. If email delivery is not connected in a preview, support will need to help.

Personal profile and privacy

Open My profile from the account menu. Follow the short steps for your picture, introduction, connections and preferences. Skip for now lets you finish later; the completion bar shows missing details. Your personal phone is private. Your display name, profile picture, bio and chosen social links are public. Boards stay private unless you explicitly share them. Your public boards appear on your personal profile; order conversations always stay private. A studio's separate public phone/WhatsApp fields are only public when its team adds them.

Find me a maker requests

Choose Find me a maker. Add a reference and a message, and confirm you have permission to share them publicly. The team reviews the request before publishing it, and may feature it on social pages to find suitable makers. Keep private contact details out of the public message. Makers send private replies; you compare their work and choose someone. Signed-in requests have no automatic expiry. Unclaimed guest requests follow the 24-hour guest limit.

Replies and choosing a maker

Open your request to read the replies intended for you. Competing makers cannot read each other's proposal text or estimates. Visit the studios, compare their approach and choose the person you want to talk to. Choosing a maker removes the request from the public board and opens a private project chat. Agree the final price and details before accepting the quote. You can close a request if you no longer need it.

Respond to buyer requests as a maker

Browse Requests, open a suitable request and choose I can make this. Set up a studio if you do not have one. Send a helpful private message about your approach and an optional rough price. The buyer chooses who to work with. An estimate in a proposal is not yet an accepted project quote.

Messages and notifications

Open My projects or the guest workspace bar, then the relevant conversation. The message box accepts text and a reference/progress picture. New messages and quote updates can appear live; refresh if the connection is interrupted. Signed-in users also have Notifications. Email alerts depend on your profile preferences and working email delivery. Keep decisions and approvals in the project conversation.

Purchase reviews

The buyer can leave one review after a completed, fully paid order, with permission to publish it. Review controls appear in that project. Reviews show on studio pages. Feedback from elsewhere on the marketplace is labelled Across MakeThatForMe. Preview pages do not invent customer testimonials. Contact support about an abusive or inaccurate review; Nora cannot delete or change reviews.

Why, how and what

Why explains the belief or difference behind your studio. How describes the care, approach or choices that make your work distinctive. What names the work and who it is for. Use one short, honest sentence for each. MakeThatForMe joins your answers into a concise brand introduction. Avoid claims you cannot support. Your work follows the brief introduction; your personal owner profile remains separate.

Share a studio and connect social pages

Use Share studio on a public studio profile. Your device may offer its share sheet; otherwise copy the studio link for social posts or a Linktree. Add brand links in the Your studio socials step and optional public phone/WhatsApp details in Get in touch. Brand social links appear below the person behind the studio, after the work and reviews. The owner’s separate public profile holds their personal social links and any boards they choose to share. Keep quotes, important choices, approvals and payments on MakeThatForMe so there is a record if you need help. Nora cannot message people on your behalf.

Helpers and account switching

The original studio owner can invite a user by email and choose portfolio, orders/conversations, reports and studio-profile permissions. The invited user must sign in with the verified invited email. The founder retains ownership and team control; helpers cannot remove the founder or approve buyer payments. Use the account menu to switch between shopping and a studio you are authorized to manage. Ask human support about access problems.

Visibility, featured work and the Journal

Give buyers a clear brand introduction, relevant categories and honest, well-lit pictures. The Journal contains guides for buyers and makers, including brand and marketing topics as the team publishes them. The team curates featured pieces and studios; sponsored placements are labelled. Featuring is not a guarantee of sales or a ranking outcome. Requests for a marketing review, advertising or individual brand advice go to the human team.

Emails and saved preferences

Your personal profile has separate order-email and optional marketing preferences. Marketing is off until you opt in. The For you feed uses views, searches and saves to suggest work; Latest and Reset my feed provide alternatives. Changes affect future notifications; messages already queued may need support attention. Nora cannot subscribe, unsubscribe or change account settings for you.

Show me around

Use Show me around in the footer to repeat the main discovery, Explore, makers, requests, Journal and how-it-works walkthrough. Studio, project and profile sections have their own first-visit guidance. On a new section, an optional Show me around invitation lets you open a guide when ready. It does not interrupt your work. Use Next, Previous or close it whenever you like. The showsaround browser cookie remembers sections on that browser. Clearing cookies or using another browser can make the guide appear again.

Public favourites and mood boards

Open a person’s profile to see the boards they have chosen to make public. Your saved favourites are private by default. Open My boards, choose a board, then set Who can see this to Public or Private and save. Sharing your Things I love board makes those favourites visible; other boards stay private. Public boards can be seen by anyone with the link. Making a board private removes access through MakeThatForMe, but cannot recall screenshots or copies someone already made.

YOU CHOOSE WHAT TO SHARE

Optional tools stay off until you choose them. On a studio, choices apply to that studio’s connected tools. Read the cookie policy
